Celebrating today, my wife gave birthday yesterday at 11:47am to a new baby boy.  My little inspiration Boston is his name.  He and my wife are both healthy and we are thrilled.  What a great day and today I was just glowing and my run was a fun awesome time.

Congrats on the new baby.

The big question is, how does this affect your running schedule?

From richborget on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 15:46:43 from 71.199.12.164

The effect on my running schedule is yet to be determined. I did promise my wife I would run less races next year, no grand slam and probably 2 or 3 marathons only. I hope I can keep up a good load of miles and it helps me keep my sanity.

Congratulations!

The closest I ever get to giving a child a running name is annoyingly tease my wife about adopting an Ethiopian girl named Tirunesh or Meseret and letting her keep her Ethiopian name. I keep coming up with new names as I watch the World Championships. She's been telling me she wants a girl, but we keep getting boys.

Fewer marathons and other races could actually be good for your training. Definitely fewer marathons. A marathon is not good for your health, it is a publicity stint of sorts with a price to pay. They say there is a fine line between hard and retard. That line, I believe is around 20, maybe 22 miles at the most. The rest is in the retard zone. In and of itself it is not good to be there, that is where your fitness savings are spent with no promise of return. That is why your typical elite marathoner rarely goes over 22 in a long run.

Rich, good seeing you yesterday. If you get a chance go to Sasha's course tool and look for Park City Marathon.

I think it helps to check the smooth the course box.

At least this will let you get an idea on some target splits.
